Recommendations
When choosing your equipment, please pay attention to the following:
· MORP (Multi-Ocean Region Polling) equipment is strongly recommended, while this guarantees a worldwide continuity of service. Since 2006, the MORP functionality is already integrated in all equipment. Some manufacturers propose software for terminal upgrading.
· The LRIT equipment should always remain turned on and available to receive pollings and to send Position Reports.
· An Inmarsat-C being intensively used for e-mailing purposes should not be chosen for LRIT communication.
· Given the fact that a busy terminal may not meet the LRIT requirements, dedicated LRIT devices are strongly recommended.
· Ships navigating in A4 areas can only use Iridium LRIT compliant terminals.
· Iridium and D+/IsatM2M devices are a reliable alternative for Inmarsat-C equipment.
